SC Aerospace is a collaborative effort to advance and market South Carolina’s aerospace industry cluster on the global stage.  We are a partnership of the public, private, academic, and nonprofit sectors connecting the industry’s assets and securing future growth.

We work to:

MANAGE, MARKET, AND CONNECT THE AEROSPACE CLUSTER

SC Aerospace hosts quarterly networking meetings and conferences across the state, bringing together industry leaders, educational institutions and workforce resources to collaborate and connect.

GROW THE AEROSPACE CLUSTER

SC Aerospace works with its partner, SC Department of Commerce, as well as regional and county economic development alliance partners, to help attract aerospace firm growth in SC.

EXPAND THE TALENT PIPELINE TO SERVE AEROSPACE SECTOR

SC Aerospace works with K-12 schools, technical colleges, and universities to connect them with aerospace firms in the state, and to provide inputs on new curriculums and training programs.

PROMOTE A COMPETITIVE INFRASTRUCTURE AND BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT

SC Aerospace works with other aerospace states to make sure that SC remains competitive in its business environment to attract aerospace companies.

ENHANCE RESEARCH AND INNOVATION

SC Aerospace collaborates with Council research initiatives like the SC Fraunhofer USA Alliance, and partners such as SC Department of Commerce Innovation Office and the state’s research universities, to promote and encourage research and development.

SC Aerospace History

The South Carolina Department of Commerce appointed the South Carolina Aerospace Task Force, a group of industry representatives and stakeholders,  with the specific charge to generate a report outlining an approach to continue and accelerate the growth of the aerospace industry in South Carolina.  The report was released in 2013.

2012

In 2014 the Council on Competitiveness and the SC Department of Commerce created a partnership to build on the planning work completed with the IMCP grant.

2014

SC Aerospace Study released, showing that aerospace has a $24.8 billion economic impact on SC.

2018

2013

The SC Council on Competitiveness received an Investing in Manufacturing Community Partnerships (IMCP) grant from the United States Department of Commerce/Economic Development Administration. The Council worked closely with the SC Department of Commerce and other partners around the state to compete for these funds that enabled additional planning related activities to occur to support the aerospace cluster.

2015

Steve Townes was selected as Chairman of SC Aerospace and members of the SC Aerospace Advisory Board were named.

2019

Don Myers, Director of Aerospace for Toray Composites, named as SC Aerospace Advisory Board Chair.

2012
